My family and I were about to walk out the door to meet our newest family member, my niece, a beautiful baby girl. I couldn’t find my phone but wanted to have it with us. So, I used another device to send a location tone. I walked around, hearing the tone but was unable to find it. Knowing I was close, I called my husband and asked him to help. As I kept sending tones, he said “that’s weird it sounds like it’s coming from all over.” We both dissolved into laughter as I realized my phone was ringing from inside my back pocket. I had been carrying it around with me all along. As we laughed my husband looked at me and said, “I don’t even know what to say.”

In that moment, a question ran through my mind. The Lord was prompting me to consider: “What else do you search for that I’ve already given you?”

Identity: But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 (NLT)

Peace: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So, don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27 (NLT)

Abundance: The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 (NLT)

Power: Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)

My mom had given us a set of resurrection Easter eggs and my daughter was standing by the box as she waited for us to leave. I heard her ask, “What happened to Jesus?” She was looking at a scene of Jesus having fallen while carrying his cross. He suffered, died, and rose in victory to give me these things and yet I wander around searching.

A few minutes later, as we walked to the car, my son said. “Mommy, is God here?” Yes. “Does He go with us?” Yes. “Is He going with us to meet the baby?” Yes.

Am I living out all that I have been given as his heir and agent of His kingdom? My prayer is this: That my Father will change my heart and mind so that, by His work, I become more and more like Jesus. And, as His Word permeates my being, I share with those around me the good news of His identity, peace, abundance, and power.

What are you searching for that your Father has already given to you? What does His Word say as you consider this area of unbelief?
